Ordered chronologically by the date I found out they don't accept Apple Pay.

Only big merchants included. Even though the kind-hearted tamale 🫔 vender at Balboa Park with a swipe-only Square payment terminal, he's not included.

I hate carrying physical cards. I know people who are like me, and people who just hate using their phone to pay things.

Ralphs

September 2021, La Jolla Village Square. Ralphs is a Kroger-owned grocery chain in SoCal, and it was the first grocery store I visited in the US (Target didn't count).

My then-friend had to set up Zelle for the first time to pay the guy who paid for us.

QR-code based payment through any Kroger app works, that was what I used from then on.

Wal-Mart

September 2021, San Diego.

My friend wasted 5 minutes inserting the coins and $1 bills to pay for all of us.

Sam's Club Cafe

I just wanted a beef hotdog :(

June 2024, Raleigh, S Saunders St store.

It was my first time visiting a US Sam's Club in person, and I just wanted a beef hotdog, and I waited in line for 10 minutes, and the payment terminal that looks like every other payment terminals that support tapping to pay didn't have NFC capability.

FML. How? Why? Just because it's owned by Wal-Mart doesn't mean it also have to suck. :(
