Imagine being a newcomer. You're new to the club (where everyone else is doing this cool thing you know nothing about, but you want to be a part of it), everyone else already knows each other. You walk into the room and they instantly see you as different, and you kinda know it before you decide to come to the club.

They don't know you but they're friendly or neutral. Some awesome people would try to be more welcoming and inclusive by striking a conversation or holding eye contact with you, but it doesn't always happen.

I don't think I make great first impressions in person (which I'm working on), what I know is that this is what I want to do and I don't want to quit just because of some awkwardness - that'd be stupid because I already came here, quitting would not only generate the sunk cost, but incur the opportunity cost of not taking the chance to explore and learn.

Sips and Scripts: Converting Plays to Movies

These people are all very welcoming, even though I know nothing about what the event is about

Everyone else has written plays and even shot movies, lived in LA or something.

I enjoyed making my own movie idea and learned a lot from the event.

Ballroom Dance Club Lesson

It's just another event I went to where I was the only one that was born outside of the US.

People there are attractive and know how to move their bodies beautifully, and they were catching up with each other where I was standing there like an idiot, failing to think of what to say.

But it was so much fan, I'm gonna practice Waltz and come again, definitely.
