I saw someone on Twitter promoting the book Outlive that talks about longevity and prevention.

I read somewhere that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the US and how people eat in the US is a contributing factor to the diseases, which prompted me to do some research (I'm aware that I'm not getting enough fruits and veges) on the diet.

Then I read through top comments on Reddit and Quora, and they say this:

When someone says Standard American Diet they are describing a diet in terms of nutrition that is high in factory processed foods, high in animal products, low in whole grains. Probably high fat, sugar and sodium.I have seen the term Western Pattern Diet also being thrown around to describe the same thing.

I'm on overprocessed foods, not getting enough exercise. My diet is very American except that I avoid sugar like plague.

I ate too much frozen meals and cured meat.

Not sure about cheese though, are they bad?

Some positive changes I want to try:

  • Order salads instead of chips / tortilla as side for lunch
  • Track how long I'm physically active each day
