Plot

Papou is grandpa in Greek, and it's grandpa that gave her the heels.

Greek immigrant family in Alabama. Family owns a restaurants. Grandparents did really good accents with rolling Rs and diconnnected speech. All the old man's sons moved away. She's almost 13 and is bullied in school because she's different (Greek and her mom won't buy her heels). Finally her father got an opportunity and decided to move away. Old man really hated that idea that family pull away and taking his granddaughter away too. After the left, on the road, grandpa's heart stopped.

Happy times

Music & dance. Greek festivals on Fridays. BBQs. It's a BBQ restaurant. The family is lovely. Mother's great dancer.

American dream

Papou crossed the Atlantic to come to the land of opportunity. But when his son in law decided to follow his dream, he was so angry and sadly passed away within a day due to heart attack.

Heart breaking ending

The beginning of the show was very confusing, girl speaking a mix of Greek and English, kneeling on the ground with a broken wind chime. Later we knew it was given by her grandpa, after he let her granddaughter go, before he died.

In the end it was the same scene, but the grandpa talked back to her saying that he's not going anywhere and she'd always have a piece of him.

What I liked

• The actors, esp the mom and the grandparents and their acting (this play was between a script reading and the final production, so a fair amount of acting was involved)
• The lighting.
